Becoming Missionary Disciples
Along the Road to Emmaus, Jesus began walking with the two disciples, listening at first to their story, asking questions, and listening for their responses. Only then, after walking, questioning, and listening, did Jesus share the Scriptures with them, enlighten them, and correct their misunderstandings. Only then, did they want to spend even more time with Him. Only then, when He cared about them and what they had to say, did they enter into relationship and only then did they want to know him more and hang out with him. And only then did they invite Jesus to stay the night and break bread with them. And only then did they recognize Him as their Jesus!
This is the very same Jesus, we are called to bring to others each time we accompany others on their journey. And how do we do this? We do this under the anointing of the Holy Spirit, and we do this using the Spiritual Gifts given to each of us by the Holy Spirit! Jesus invites you and me to enter into relationship with others in the same way He did. And we have the power of the Holy Spirit and the spiritual gifts the Spirit gives to us to help us do this.
Becoming a Missionary Disciple demands that each one of us has heard about and knows how to "live in the Spirit and how to follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit". Is your parish focused on renewing your people by helping them to "live in the Spirit" and "follow the promptings of the Holy Spirit?"
